A nephrologist is a physician who specializes in the
management of kidney diseases and electrolyte imbalance
produced by kidney failure. They also care for patients
who require routine dialysis. For those patients who require
a kidney transplant, the nephrologist works with the transplant
surgeons to continue providing care for those patients.
After completing medical school, nephrologists spend three
years training in internal medicine with two years of additional
