As
a woman, you may be a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter
or an aunt. Whatever your role, you are special because
of the care you give to the people whose lives you
touch. Because of the special role that women play
in everyone's lives, our Women's Health Unit strives
to offer special care to women of all ages. This is
especially important when a woman finds herself in
the hospital.
Our Women’s Health Unit offers family-centered care dedicated to the quality care of mothers and their newborns. However, if you find yourself hospitalized
for a condition common to women, you can also expect
us to provide you with specialized care during your
hospital stay. The highly-skilled nurses on our Women's
Health Unit provide exceptional care for the comfort
of our patients, using the latest technology and medical
advancements.
Family-Centered Care
On our Women’s Health Unit, you and your coach will be allowed to deliver your baby in fully-equipped, private birthing suites and remain in that same room throughout your recovery and post-partum period until you are ready for discharge. You will have the latest technology available to you. If you have a cesarean birth, you will find comfort in an attractive private room.
After you deliver your baby, your care will be closely monitored by our nursing staff. Your baby will be allowed to stay in your room as long as you desire. This allows our nursing staff to teach you the skills you will need when you take your baby home. It also enables you to better understand your baby before you leave the hospital.
When you find yourself needing extra rest, you can
have your baby brought to our nursery, which is
always staffed
by a registered nurse. We also have a Level II
nursery that offers more specialized care for newborns
with
a short-term illness. Our Level II nursery is one
of only 25 in Kentucky.
In order to keep your baby safe, our unit is a secure unit. Our staff has had special training in safety, including the “HUGS” System, which is an electronic monitoring system that safeguards our babies against the threat of abduction.

Classes and Support Groups
We want women to be comfortable and knowledgeable
in their new roles as mothers, so we offer
a variety of
classes for both parents as well as the baby's
siblings. We also recognize the important role
that breastfeeding
plays in the health and development of a child,
and we encourage all of our new mothers to
consider breastfeeding
their baby. We have certified lactation consultants
who provide care and guidance both during and
after a mother's hospital stay.
