Central Kentucky Cancer Program

Make a Difference in the Life of a Cancer Patient.
When you or a family member are diagnosed with cancer, you can depend on the Central Kentucky Cancer Program to make this trying time a little easier. In partnership with the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation, the Central Kentucky Cancer Program aims to enhance local cancer care services through education, prevention and early detection while improving the treatment of the disease.

The Central Kentucky Cancer Program is a unique, community-based program that was created in 1996 as a collaborative effort between the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, local physicians, cancer survivors and concerned citizens. The Central Kentucky Cancer Program is supported by contributions from individuals and corporations throughout this region of central Kentucky.

Among the services provided through the Central Kentucky Cancer Program are:

Prevention. Choosing a healthy lifestyle may help to reduce your risk for certain cancers. The Central Kentucky Cancer Program provides community education classes to inform the public about lifestyle choices. These programs heighten the public’s awareness about the risks of cancer, ways to lower risk factors and the importance of early detection.

Screenings. Because early detection is vital to winning the fight against cancer, the Central Kentucky Cancer Program annually sponsors screenings for prostate, skin and colorectal cancer. On average, more than 800 people participate in these free screenings. Of those screened, approximately one in three is referred for more extensive testing and screening.

Mobile Mammography. Mammography is the best tool for detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages. Ephraim McDowell Health’s mobile mammography unit travels to corporate and community sites in Boyle and surrounding counties, making it convenient for women in these areas to have this important procedure. Please call (859)239-1401 to schedule a visit by our mobile mammography unit to your business or industry.

Diagnostics. State-of-the-art equipment is available to pathologists, surgeons and other physicians to assist in diagnosing many cancers. The Central Kentucky Cancer Program utilizes money raised at its fund-raising events towards the purchase of specialized equipment needed to diagnose cancer, including a stereotactic breast biopsy unit and a digital mammography unit and reader.

Treatment. Radiation oncologists, hematologists and oncologists provide professional, courteous care in treating cancer patients, using the latest advancements.

With your support, we can make a difference! If you are interested in making a donation to the Central Kentucky Cancer Program, please use the online donation form.
