Cardiac Care
If
you have heart disease or chronic lung disease, your
physician has likely discussed with you the importance
of exercise and a proper diet for managing your illness.
We can help you achieve your goals for a healthier
lifestyle
through our outpatient cardiac care
services.
Our cardiac care department is located
on the first floor of the North Building. We offer
cardiac rehabilitation services to individuals who
have had
chest pain, PTLA/stent placement, heart attack, open
heart surgery or a heart transplant. Pulmonary rehabilitation
is offered to individuals with chronic lung disease
such as emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, COPD or pulmonary
fibrosis.
Our cardiac care service is nationally certified
by the American Association of Cardiovascular Pulmonary
Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This is your assurance that
you are receiving the highest quality of care.
We accept patients upon physician referral and will
keep your physician informed about your progress throughout
your participation in the program. When you are admitted
into our program, we will develop an individualized
exercise program along with helping you set goals for
making healthy lifestyle changes. Most of our cardiac
care patients generally stay in the program
for 10 to 12 weeks, while our pulmonary care
patients stay in the program for 8 to 10 weeks.
Cardiac and pulmonary care patients receive
services three days a week. We have exercise
bicycles, treadmills, rowers, arm ergometers, recumbent
steppers
and weights. During exercise, you will be telemetry
monitored along with frequent checks of your blood
pressure,
heart rate and oxygen saturation levels. If you
are diabetic, fingerstick glucose levels will be checked
as well.
While you are in our rehabilitation program, you will
be attending a series of educational classes to support
your efforts toward developing a healthy lifestyle.
These educational classes include information on diet,
risk factors, energy conservation, medication and stress
lowering techniques. Our goal is to restore you
to a healthy lifestyle with as much independence as
is possible for your health status.
