Orientation
Congratulations on becoming an Associate of Ephraim McDowell
Health. We have a comprehensive orientation
program to start you on a successful career at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center. Our orientation process
is designed to teach you about your job responsibilities
as well as to acquaint you with the equipment you will
be using and the procedures to follow as an Associate
of our organization.
Clinical Associates participate in a two-day
orientation process in a classroom setting with other
non-clinical Associates. Clinical orientation starts
on the second Monday of each month. Classes for RNs
and LPNs are held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday the first week and Monday through Wednesday the
second week. Orientation for PCTs is a one-week process,
with classes held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday; from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday;
and from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Clinical Associates
in departments other than nursing continue their orientation
past those two days, with the duration based on the
Associate's experience and training. More information
about the orientation process for nurses is provided
in the nursing section.
Non-clinical Associates will participate in a
two-day orientation process in a classroom setting.
During those two days, we will familiarize you with
our products, procedures and policies so that you will
have a better understanding of our organization and
what will be expected of you. After completing the two-day orientation, you may participate in a computer class that acquaints you with the software programs we use. At this time you also may be given an Intranet email account. You will also learn how to utilize our e-Appraisal system that is used to document performance expectations/results. Following the two-day classroom setting and the computer class, you will begin working in the department in which you have been hired. A departmental orientation process will provide you with the opportunity to learn the various aspects of your job and your responsibilities within the department. |
